We founded Mejuri on the belief that making fine jewelry doesn’t have to come at the cost of our values, our communities or our planet. We believe true sustainability is about transparently addressing our impacts on the environment and the people in our ecosystem.
For that reason, we strike a balance between recycled and fairly mined materials that support communities dependent on the industry. Traceability is important because it allows us to validate the authenticity of the material and improve the social and environmental impacts of our pieces. As we grow globally and expand our networks, maximizing the transparency and traceability of our supply chain is our ultimate goal.
14k Solid Gold
Solid gold is a precious metal that will not oxidize or discolor. The 14k alloy gives our pieces their beautiful, subtle hue. Our 14k white gold pieces are finished in rhodium plating, which gives them extra shine and durability. 14k solid gold is also an active lifestyle's best friend; it scratches less and doesn't bend or wear out as easily as 18k. All of our 14k gold pieces are stamped with the industry standard “14K” or “585”, except for our Thin Dome Ring, Bold Chain Ring and Thin Chain Ring.
To ensure a positive impact on both the environment and local communities, 70% of our 14k pieces are made with certified recycled gold and 30% with responsibly mined gold. There is no visible difference in the appearance of our 14k solid gold jewelry between recycled and responsibly mined gold.
We work with recycled gold to reduce our environmental impact, and conduct due diligence to ensure that the gold is certified recycled content from scrap or post-consumer sources.
While we aim to prioritize certified recycled gold across our collections, we ensure that any new, responsibly mined gold is traceable to suppliers who are certified against international sustainability standards and best practices such as the Responsible Jewelry Council.
925 Sterling Silver is a lightweight metal made of 92.5% pure silver. It’s highly durable and designed for everyday wear.
18k Gold Vermeil
How do you pronounce that? We've got you: ver-may. Not to be confused with regular gold plating, our vermeil is a thick layer of 18k solid gold on sterling silver meaning it will last longer. You get the look & feel of gold jewelry at a fraction of the price. We use 18k gold that is a minimum of 2.5 microns thick, as required by the Federal Trade Commission to classify vermeil, layered over sterling silver. All of our 18k gold vermeil pieces are stamped with “925”.
Titanium is a lightweight, highly corrosion-resistant and durable material. When properly cared for, titanium will maintain its appearance for a lifetime.
Enamel and Ceramic
Enameling is a technique in which a glossy substance, traditionally a type of glass, is applied to the surface of metal or another hard surface. Traditional enamel is glass-based; however, we use cold enamel—also known as epoxy resin enamel—which does not contain glass. This type is far more durable and resistant to chipping that may sometimes occur with daily wear.
Ceramics are an incredibly durable material often made by taking mixtures of clay, earthen elements, powders and water—and shaping them into desired forms. Once the ceramic has been shared, it is fired in a high-temperature oven known as a kiln. Often, ceramics are covered and/or protected with a waterproof, paint-like substance known as a glaze.
Diamonds and Gemstones
Diamonds are one of the hardest natural substances found on earth. Our high-quality diamonds (within GHI color grade and range SI-I 1-2 clarity) are responsibly-sourced from our suppliers who follow socially responsible practices. We only use Kimberley Process compliant diamonds.
We only use responsibly-sourced natural, mineral gemstones. All of our precious and semi-precious gemstones are AAA grade, considered the rarest and most valuable.
AAA grade is assigned to gemstones that are considered “being near perfect.” Though these gemstones do show some variation in color, they are clean, well cut and polished to a very high standard.
We use cultured pearls from oysters and freshwater mussels that we carefully select for our pieces. Pearls are sensitive so don't forget to treat them with love.
