HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR JEWELRY

Use this guide for care tips by material.

How to Wear

  • The more intentional you are about caring for your jewelry, the longer it will last.

  • Remove your jewellery before doing any activity that risks physical damage.

  • As a general care tip, your jewelry should be the last thing you put on before going out and the first thing you remove upon coming home.

How to Store

  • When not being worn, store in a safe, dry place to protect against the elements of daily exposure.

  • Store pieces separately to avoid damage.

  • Ensure pieces are completely dry before storing.

  • Certain metals, like vermeil and sterling silver, can be prone to tarnishing. Rather than the packaging that came with your purchase, we recommend storing your pieces in our Leather Jewellery Boxes, which are lined with an anti-tarnish microsuede fabric that makes care and cleaning even easier.

What to know about wearing gold jewelry

  • 14k gold jewelry is more durable than 18k gold, which is softer and susceptible to scratching and bending.

  • To keep your 14k gold jewelry looking its best, be mindful of how you wear it. Any physically challenging activity could impact your jewelry.

  • Don’t use abrasive cleaners.

  • Ultrasonic cleaners are safe to use on 14k gold jewellery.

Gold Vermeil

Not to be confused with regular gold plating, our vermeil (pronounced ver-may) is a thick layer of 18k solid gold on sterling silver. It lasts longer and provides the look and feel of gold jewellery at a fraction of the price.

What to know about wearing gold vermeil jewellery

  • Vermeil will naturally tarnish over time, especially when exposed to environmental factors like air pollution, moisture, and items that contain sulfur.

  • It is easy to restore the shine of gold vermeil jewellery.

How to store gold vermeil jewellery

  • Store in a safe, dry place—such as an anti-tarnish pouch or case—with the anti-tarnish strip that came with your purchase. This will help to protect your pieces when they are not being worn.

  • All of our Jewelry Cases have an anti-tarnish microsuede lining for ease of care.

How to clean gold vermeil jewellery

  • Proactive maintenance is key. To keep tarnish from setting in, be sure to clean your pieces regularly by wiping them with a soft, damp cloth.

  • To remove tarnish, buff gently with a polishing cloth, or use our Jewelry Care Kit

  • Worth noting: polishing cloths can be abrasive so apply gentle pressure and don’t over polish.

Sterling Silver

925 Sterling Silver is a lightweight metal made of 92.5% pure silver. It’s highly durable and designed for everyday wear.

What to know about wearing sterling silver jewellery

  • Proactive maintenance is the best way to prolong the lifespan of sterling silver.

  • Please note: If you’re wearing pieces made of oxidized silver, they will need to be cleaned differently. Oxidized silver products have a special finish, so we recommend a dry clean—no water or silver cleaning polish—otherwise finish may rub off entirely.
