FAQ

All your piercing questions answered. For more, contact us.

How do I book a piercing appointment?

Piercing appointments can be booked here. Our appointment availability is always up to date - if you do not see any open slots, continue to check back for more availability! If piercing is not yet offered in your nearest location, sign up for our waitlist to be the first to know more!

Please note that you can reschedule your appointment at any time via the booking confirmation email. We will also send a reminder email before your appointment and you can reschedule at that time if needed.

How do piercing appointments work?

  1. Fill out the intake form and waiver upon booking your appointment. Before you arrive, make sure you bring your ID and are wearing a face covering.

  2. All studs for piercing will be available to view on the day of piercing, and our stylist and piercer team will help you select and purchase your studs in our store. Piercing studs are not available for purchase online.

  3. Our piercing service fee is $25 USD/CAD and £20 GBP for events and permanent studios, in addition to the cost of your choice of jewelry.

  4. Piercings are done by a professional piercer using a single use, sterilized piercing needles. Kindly note that piercings are available for ear lobes and cartilage only.

  5. Lobe and cartilage piercings will take about 20 minutes. Our piercer will walk you through the process and any aftercare tips.

*We have a 5 minute grace period. If you arrive more than 5 minutes after your appointment start time, we will be unable to accommodate your piercing appointment.

Please note that any product purchased during a piercing service will be final sale.

Check Up Appointment

A check up appointment can be used to downsize your post, change jewelry if you need help, or check in on your healing process. These will take about 20 minutes.

What health and safety measures are being taken in the store?

As our customers and our staff are always our first priority, we aim to ensure the health and safety of those around us. In our piercing studios:

  • Each of our stores follows their Province or State’s latest COVID-19 safety guidelines and have been approved to operate by the local health authority.

  • We sanitize all surfaces within our studio between each client.

  • We use sterilized, single-use equipment for piercing.

  • Our piercers are provided with additional PPE to ensure our piercings are safe and sanitary.

What should I do to prepare before going into my appointment?

  • Ensure you have had a snack and are fully hydrated.

  • Bring your government-issued ID. If you are between 16-17, ensure both you and your parent or legal guardian also bring their government-issued photo ID’s (Drivers License, Passport, etc).

  • Wear a mask or face covering.

  • Ensure you are not showing any symptoms of COVID-19. If so, we’d ask you to kindly re-schedule.

What types of piercings are offered?

The Piercing Studio offers eight types of ear piercings, as labeled below. Heal time varies based on your chosen piercing location. Select areas (not labeled) are not able to be pierced due to the length of our threadless flat back studs.

Why can I only get pierced with threadless flat back studs and not the butterfly back studs?

Rather than using traditional butterfly backings, we opted to use threadless flat back studs which are more comfortable throughout the healing process. Butterfly backings can move throughout wear which is not ideal during the healing process as it can cause infections, abrasions etc. Threadless Flat back studs are preferred by piercers due to this - even outside Mejuri!

Why is there a price difference between the threadless flat back studs and the butterfly back studs?

The post used for piercing is longer than a typical butterfly backing to accommodate for swelling during healing and is more complex to change on your own. This is why we recommend making checkup appointments with us. Since our piercing studs are threadless flat back studs, their design is more intricate by nature. This along with our materials used (either titanium or 14k, depending on the length), results in an increased price.

Do the piercing studios accept gratuity?

Yes, effective July 1st the piercing studio leads are able to accept direct gratuity from customers as token of appreciation for their service. E-transfer and cash accepted at Canadian locations, Venmo and cash accepted at U.S locations.

What earrings can I get pierced with?

We can pierce our entire piercing collection in any of the above locations. Please note that you will only be able to be pierced with the Mejuri piercing collection shown here, exclusively. Per piercing, a newly purchased stud is required from the Mejuri piercing collection.

How many piercings can I get done in one appointment?

  • Four piercings maximum (across both ears) if you are only getting lobe piercings

  • Three piercings maximum (across both ears) if you are getting a mix of cartilage and lobe piercings

The number and location of piercings can affect your quality of sleep. Your piercer will make a recommendation based on the anatomy of your ear, sleeping habits and healing status of any of your other piercings.

Are there age restrictions or any other restrictions I should be aware of?

  • Lobe and cartilage piercings will be available for 16+.

  • No parental consent needed for those 18+, but you will need to provide a valid government issued photo ID and will need to sign a waiver for yourself.

  • Parental consent is required for those aged 16 and 17; a parent must be on site and sign the waiver.

  • Those between the ages of 16-17 must be accompanied by their legal guardian. Both child and legal guardian must have a valid photographic ID or equivalent with them on the day (e.g. passport, driver’s license, birth certificate). If the child and legal guardian’s last name are different, proof of guardianship must also be presented (passport, birth certificate etc.). A valid photo ID or equivalent must be required for proof of age.

  • Additional restrictions: you cannot be pierced if you are pregnant or nursing.

Can I get an old piercing re-pierced?

Yes, if the piercer determines that it is safe to do so.

What are the after care suggestions for my piercing?

Head over here to find all after care information!

What is considered “normal” after the piercing?

It varies from one person to another!

  • Within the first few weeks: Lobe and cartilage piercings will experience some bleeding, localized swelling, tenderness, or bruising.

  • Generally, within the first 2-4 months: Some discoloration, itching, and secretion of a whitish-yellow fluid (not pus) that may form some crust on the jewelry can occur. The tissue may tighten around the jewelry as it heals.

  • Around 2-3 months: Lobes are typically healed. If your jewelry feels loose, book a check up appointment to come in for a downsize. Be patient, keep cleaning throughout the healing period!

  • Around 6-8 months: Cartilage is typically healed. If your jewelry feels loose, book a check up appointment to come in for a downsize. Be patient and keep cleaning throughout the healing period!

Is there anything that I should do or avoid doing to prepare for the piercing ahead of time?

DO: Ensure you eat and hydrate before arriving.

AVOID: Please do not consume alcohol or banned substances prior to getting pierced.

Is there anything that I should do post-piercing?

Be patient and keep cleaning your piercing every day until it is healed. If your piercing starts feeling loose, book a check up appointment to downsize your jewelry backing. Having a proper fit once healed will avoid irritation from snagging while sleeping.

Is there anything that I should avoid post-piercing?

  1. Being cautious is the best way to avoid infection—this is an open wound that is healing.

  2. Try to minimize any activities that involve excessive sweating (eg. exercise), but if you do, shower or clean your wound directly afterwards.

  3. Avoid taking your jewelry out to avoid the hole closing.

  4. Avoid swimming:

  • Lobes: for 3-4 weeks

  • Cartilage: for 2 months

What does it mean to downsize your post?

The piercing backing you are pierced with is longer than a typical butterfly backing to accommodate for swelling during healing. When your piercing has healed, you have the choice to downsize the size of your backing to prevent it from being loose and causing irritation around your piercing.
