Frequenty Asked Questions
To keep it simple—cartilage piercings are any piercings not done on the ear lobe. There are several different varieties of cartilage piercings, including the helix, daith, tragus, forward helix, conch and rook.
Our cartilage earrings are designed to be worn in any helix piercing. Our three, new cartilage styles—Beaded, Solo Diamond, and Pavé—are all designed to be worn in post-healed helix piercings. Please note, you cannot pierce your cartilage with these pieces.
Cartilage piercings are done on any part of the ear where the tissue is harder, compared to your ear lobe, which is typically softer and more pliable. Cartilage piercings are always done with a needle, rather than the gun you’ve seen at your local mall (you know the one we’re talking about). These piercings can take up to a year to heal, so take care to keep your earring clean and avoid changing out your earring until it is fully healed.
They will definitely hurt more than a lobe piercing, but not as bad as you’re thinking, we promise! That said, it doesn’t hurt to bring a buddy just in case.
This depends on the type of cartilage piercing you get, your aftercare, and the piercer you work with. Healing times range person-to-person, but can typically take six months to a year for cartilage. For questions around healing, please refer to the care instructions provided to you when you get pierced, just to be safe.
We will not be offering cartilage piercings, as these earrings are made for wear specifically with healed piercings only.
With cartilage piercings, it’s recommended that you are initially pierced with a gold or titanium stud (typically flat-backed), as these are less likely to cause a reaction, easier to heal, and allow for any post-piercing swelling. Once your piercing is healed (a.k.a. there isn't any redness, pain or swelling and according to your piercer’s recommended timelines), you can switch out your earring for something more stylish.
Our cartilage earrings all feature an 18 gauge and a diameter of 10mm.
Like any of our 14k solid gold pieces, these earrings can be worn all day, everyday. Use warm soap and water to give them a little scrub when needed to restore their shine.
Each of these earrings are designed to mix and match with your daily stack, and elevate any look. Add easy texture with our Cartilage Beaded Mini Hoop. Prefer a bit of sparkle? Pair the Cartilage Pavé Diamond Mini Hoop with our new Gemstone Bar Studs for a seasonal refresh. Or, be the hoop queen with a full stack all the way up, capped with a diamond for good measure.
