Earring Fixes 101

Here’s how to fix a butterfly back or loose clicker clasp.

Step 1

Gently squeeze the two loops on the earring back together.

Step 2

Test the fit to make sure it’s secure with your post.

If your clicker clasp feels loose, don’t worry—it’s usually an easy fix. Follow these steps to tighten it at home.

Gently push the tip of the post up or down with your finger.

Step 3

Find where the dip on your post is.

Step 4

If the dip is at the top of the post, push the post up. If the dip is at the bottom, push the post down.

Step 5

Close the earring and repeat the process until it clicks in.
