FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Lab grown diamonds are diamonds created in a laboratory through a process that replicates the conditions under which natural diamonds are formed deep within the Earth. They have the same physical and chemical properties as a natural diamond
Mejuri’s suppliers use the Chemical Vapor Deposition method (CVD), where a diamond seed is exposed to a mixture of gasses containing carbon atoms (such as methane) in a vacuum chamber. These carbon atoms adhere to the seed crystal and gradually form a diamond layer.
To the naked eye, polished lab grown diamonds and natural diamonds appear identical. They have the same hardness level, brilliance, and fire (flashes of colors that emit from a polished diamond as it moves and is exposed to light) as a natural diamond.
Only a jeweler or trained gemologist can identify the difference when looking at stones under magnification.
Our lab grown diamond products are made in a separate facility.
Not all lab grown diamonds are created equally, but Mejuri is proud to offer only SCS Global-certified sustainable diamonds.
Our selected vendor is SCS Global certified, a third-party certification program that developed the SCS-007 Jewelry Sustainability Standard for Sustainability Rated Diamonds. This is the first developed for the global diamond market from supplier to retailer. It has broken down barriers, creating transparency from the source all the way to the customer.
The SCS Global certification requires five main commitments to sustainability:
Origin Traceability: Each diamond is traceable from start to finish..
Ethical Stewardship: Diamond producers and handlers meet social and environmental requirements, including protection for workers and communities.
Climate Neutrality: Diamond producers agree to eliminate or offset their entire climate footprint in a timely manner with a true environmental impact.
Sustainable Production: Each diamond producer works towards zero impact in all categories of production-relation environment and human health.
Sustainability Investments: Diamond producers make sustainable investments to support artisanal-scale miners and vulnerable communities, contributing to a safer world.
Lab grown diamonds are cared for in the same way as natural diamonds.
